Advance purchases
Italian Rail tickets can be purchased on this website up to 2 months prior to the validity start date or in any Trenitalia outlet (station ticket desks and travel agents).
The ticket can be:
- 1st or 2nd class
- one-way or round-trip
- for a single traveller or for groups
Validity
2 months from validity start-date if used on departure from Italy, it must be validated before departure and the trip in Italy must end within 24 hours from the validation.
What City-to-City tickets offer in Italy
Seating in 1st or 2nd class, on Trenitalia domestic or international trains, for the requested route; (please note that many trains also require a reservation to reserve a seat)
for Berth, Comfort T4 and Bed facilities, a supplementary payment is required;
If a part of the journey is made on Eurostar Italia trains, payment of the Eurostar Italia Upgrading is necessary, entitling one to a seat reservation as well.
Reductions
- Children (up to 12 years of age) 50%
- Groups (6 or more travellers) 20%
All Italian tickets, both domestic and cross border must be validated at the machines on the platform before use. Failure to do this will result in a fine of up to 200 Euro.
